What is a Google Business Profile?

A Google Business Profile is a free service offered by Google that uses location-relevant searches to link up location-based businesses with nearby customers. You can learn more here.

Are Google Business Profiles free?

Yep! Google Business Profiles are free. All you need is a Google account (also free!)

Who can get a Google Business Profile? Do I need to have a public address?

As Google suggests, “You can have a profile if your business doesn’t have a physical address as long as you make in-person contact with customers. You can also have a profile if you’re a hybrid business that serves customers at your business address and visits or delivers directly to customers. You may also have a profile if you’re a service-area business that visits or delivers to customers directly, but doesn’t serve customers at its business address, like a plumber or cleaning service.”

If you’re unsure, I recommend doing a Google search of “[your occupation] near you” to see if your local competitors are using the Google Business Profiles. Most likely, they are!

Will I need to buy anything else (like other tools or systems) in order to complete the course?

Nope! If you buy the course, the methods taught are completely free. However, I do mention some tool alternatives that have a minimal cost – None of which are required to set up and optimize a Google Business Profile.

How long does the course take to complete and for my Business listing to appear in search results?

All course participants follow different timelines, but on average, setting up and optimizing a Google Business Profile takes 2-5 hours. From there, the verification process on Google’s end takes 3-4 days.

Can’t I just Google how to do this?

Do you want to? If the answer is yes, then by all means, go ahead! But if you’re like me and you prefer to spend your time moving the needle forward in your biz, then spend the $$$. (The cost is probably less than what you pay for your monthly streaming services!)

Will I actually be #1 on Google?

Setting up and optimizing a Google Business Profile will not actually get you to be #1 on Google search results, but I’ve seen clients show up on the first page of search results using Google Business listings. This works because Business listings typically show up before any other rankings, so if you can optimize for your target audience, you have a good chance of showing up before #1.
